The First Look: Is it for you?

Touch of Whimsy Design and Coordination with Lyndsay Lyon Photography, The Prospect House, and Black Petal Floral Design

Today, we are welcoming one of  my favorite photographers to the blog to share a little bit about the First Look trend.  As a wedding planner, the timeline is our bread and butter. One of our first questions to the couple is whether or not they are going to participate in a First Look. This means that they would see each other for the first time in an intimate and romantic setting instead of at the end of the aisle. Surprisingly, the grooms seem to be the ones that we have to convince, not the brides. [Those stubborn boys lol now they care? Am I right? 😉 ]

The truth is, this is a much more private way to see your love for the first time. You can take this moment to exchange gifts, a note, or even say a prayer together before all of the “hustle and bustle” begins. Sadly, you will not spend too much time with your new spouse during the reception. Why not use this time to just be together for a few minutes? …..Plus you get an additional 30-45 minutes of reception time! Party!

So…without further ado (aka rambling lol) here is the original post from Ariana Ruehle of  ANM Photography. Be sure to check her out on Instagram at @anm_photo or on her website at www.anmphoto.com.

Touch of Whimsy Design and Coordination | A sweet look at the first look

The First Look: Is It For You?

The First Look. What is it? It’s the moment between a bride and groom when they see each other for the first time on the wedding day. Before the ceremony. Yes – it breaks tradition but there are many advantages to a First Look. They are truly emotional and a once in a life time interaction. Here is why I love First Looks.

1) Emotion

Either your partner cries, laughs, can’t breathe, turns around, checks you out; it’s real. It’s heartwarming moment that you will never forget.

2) It’s a private moment.

You’re alone. Just you and your groom. 10-15 minutes to see each other can work wonders for those stage-fright jitters. You can hug, kiss, cry, prey, or laugh together. As a photographer, I’m there but hidden. I try to stay as far away as I can (and still get the shot) to give you as much space as you need to be alone with your one true love.

3)  The Timeline

They are also a huge help with the timeline. The bridesmaids, groomsmen and wedding party pictures can be done before the ceremony allowing you to go straight to the reception.  Let’s get the party started!

Unique Wedding Locations

While you’re probably out on the prowl looking at wedding venues, a few things like this may cross your mind: 1. “Aww this venue is so gorgeous, but I think so-and-so got married here.” 2. “Is this venue going to fit all of my guests???” 3. “Hmm…this just doesn’t seem like “us”.” If you’re having these thoughts, let me tell you…there are actually many different places that you may get married other than a wedding venue! Here are a few unique wedding locations that you might want to consider for your upcoming nuptials.

  1. Museums

The first stop on our list of unique wedding locations is museums! Art museums, natural history museums, city museums, air and space museums, and even children’s museums have spaces you can rent after hours! You will have exhibits as your backdrop (like a huge Triceratops Rex, or a historic airliner jet), which are not only amazing and awe-inspiring, but also great conversation starters for guests. For even more fun, ask whether the staff can provide guided tours or open exhibits for the guests to enjoy during cocktail hour! Museums, castles, and other historical sites are the perfect unique wedding location for even the most eclectic couples. 2. City, State, and National Parks

Parks provide some of the prettiest natural backgrounds you can find, for the small cost of…FREE! As a result, your photos and memories will be just as natural and awe-inspiring. While parks are the perfect spot for a smaller, more intimate wedding, pulling off a wedding on the grander scale can be done too. Just scout out your perfect scene and do a little research. Some public spaces require you to apply for a permit ahead of time and will have some restrictions as far as bringing sound, equipment, rentals, food, and drinks. A park is also a great spot for the wedding ceremony. Contact us today for assistance planning your wedding at one of these locations. Creating a venue from scratch can be more challenging than meets the eye.

3. Conservatory or Botanical Gardens — San Antonio Botanical Gardens

Have always imagined getting married surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants, consider having your wedding at a local botanical garden or conservatory. Besides unique and beautiful flora, many gardens have pretty fountains and ponds, tree-lined paths, gorgeous flower beds, or even an ethereal greenhouse which would be not only the perfect place to marry, but also to hold your reception. If you decide that this spot is for you, you wont need to spend a lot of money on having your own flowers, you can decorate with candles, lights, and different types of jars instead!

4. Boats

Do you and your fiancé love to have getaways to the coast now and then? Plan to wed on any type of vessel, whether it’s a sailboat, riverboat, or yacht. Your guests will love the atmosphere, and your photographer will be able to get all kinds of different photos with the changing background throughout the day. Whatever you decide to do, make sure the vessel has enough room for as many guests as you are planning on having.

Beaches, yachts, boats, and other water front properties are the perfect unique wedding location for even the most adventurous couples. Contact Touch of Whimsy Design and Coordination for assistance planning your destination or hill country wedding at letsgetwhimsical.com

5.  The “One-of-a-kind” Unique Wedding Location | Rental Home

Finally, the last stop on our the list of unique wedding locations uses sites like AirBnB.com and VRBO.com. Incase you didn’t already know these sites are all the rage right now! Have you ever thought about having an intimate wedding in a large tuscan style villa, or quaint country cottage? These sites provide every style and size of home available to accommodate your wedding. These are truly one-of-a-kind locations. PLUS…your wedding party or family can use it as lodging for the nights before and after your wedding. That sounds like a win-win to me! Am I right? Be sure to ask for permission from the owners before booking. Most require a written agreement to host a party.
